Gelatinized MACA Powder
During the production of a gelatinized product, the Maca root is put under pressure and light heat. This type of pressure removes all starch from the plant, making it easier to digest. Gelatinization removes some of the nutrients present in the raw powder, but it also makes the remaining nutrients more concentrated and bio-available.
Some people, especially those with weaker digestive systems have stomach pain and gas after consuming raw Maca powder. The gelatinization process takes care of these issues as it separates the fibrous parts of the plant and makes it easier to digest.
Maca like the goji berry, reishi mushroom, asparagus root and others is a powerful adaptogen. Adaptogens promote healthy adaptation to stress, both physical and emotional, and modulate many of the body systems.
Maca has been used medicinally for many centuries in South America. It contains biologically active aromatic isothiocyanates especially p-methoxybenzyl isothiocyanate. It has a higher lipid(fatty) content than other root crops.
Varieties of Maca – Colour Types
The most predominant varieties are the Yellow Maca, the Red Maca and the Black Maca. BIOANDA offers all three types.
Maca is categorised based on the colour of its roots and is most commonly yellow, black or red. All colours of Maca have similar benefits, although specific Maca types and colours are thought to be more beneficial for certain conditions.
Maca tends to have an earthy, slightly nutty taste with a hint of butterscotch that works especially well when added to oatmeal or cereal. The flavor can also vary based on the type of Maca, with black Maca being a bit more bitter and cream-coloured roots having a sweeter taste. Maca powder can be easily added to smoothies and drinks or mixed into recipes.
Keep in mind that most people prefer not to microwave or heat their Maca powder at high temperatures as the heating process may diminish some nutrients.
Although there is no official recommendation on Maca powder dosage, it is best to start out with about one tablespoon spread throughout the day. Many people like to take it before exercising to get better results.
